Our pottery is the oldest working pottery in western Crete. We are a two family, nine persons, working cooperative and a traditional family business which has passed from father to son for seven generations. Our pottery is based near the city of Chania on the slopes of the local mountain.
We specialize in practical, useful ceramics of high quality and good design, ideal for daily or professional use. All our products are thrown on a potters wheel and are 100% hand crafted by members of our family. We design and make ceramics for your kitchen and dining table. These include flat plates, salad bowls, fruit bowls, breakfast bowls in many sizes, beautiful cups, goblets, wine glasses and jugs. All these items are produced in twelve different glaze colors.
We also continue to make the traditional Cretan cooking bowls, suitable for all types of oven, in a range of ten different sizes.
Our special and unique products include the famous cup of justice and the salt shaker of Kournas.
We give a guarantee that all our original handmade work can be safely used in both a dishwasher and a microwave oven.
We use only local red, frost free and fire proof clay. Our glazes are lead free and non toxic for which we can present both the Greek and European paperwork as a guarantee of this fact.
at present we own three shops in crete and export to five European countries: the United Kingdom, Cyprus, sweden, belgium and germany.
Our main shop, situated in Kournas village, near to the natural Kournas lake, is called “Terra-Cotta”. It opens all year round, including Sundays from 9:30 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.
During the winter we produce our own olive oil, both pure, extra virgin, cold first press and organic, biological olive oil.
Our average yield is 5000 litres a year from our 800 olive trees. At our main shop you can have the opportunity to personally sample our oil. The olive oil is bottled in special flexible, light and unbreakable bottles in four sizes; 0.5, 0.8, 1.5 and 2 litres. It is priced at 5.30 euros per litre.
Finally, in our shop, you can find local thyme honey, red and white wine, ouzo, cretan raki (tsikoydia), herbs, spices, soaps and other produce from our region.
Our “terra- cotta” shop is situated on the road (the old national road), between the kournas village square and the end of the village, when travelling in the direction of kournas lake. It is 3.5 km from kournas lake.
